Look at the document Satirical Devices Used in Lost in the Kitchen.  Look at the terms provided and think about them as you read.

Read the piece "Lost in the Kitchen" by Dave Barry

Make a copy of the document.  Please annotate the story using the colors provided to show the use of irony, understatement, hyperbole, stereotypes, self deprecation, and metaphor.

Hi classes,
I just wanted to share pics of our new daughter with you. Kyla Lynn (Murphy) Mason was born last Tuesday, November 27. She weighed 7 lbs and 11 oz. I miss you all and hope you are having fun with Mr. Hurl. I look forward to seeing you when I return. Please ask Mr. Hurl any questions about grades while we are recovering. I will be back in email  contact in another couple of weeks. Happy Holidays - I wish you all a safe and restful break.
