Welcome

Welcome 11th graders to Honors American Literature!

First, congratulations on making it half way through high school. You have two more years to go and this will be one of the most important of your high school career. In this year, you may decide to seriously consider a career, start choosing which colleges you will apply to, or a career you would like to dedicate yourself. It is also the year where colleges, scouts, and businesses start looking at you. It is the year where your personal and academic interests begin to merge as you prepare for the journey after high school.

So, what are we going to do to get you prepared?
1. In this class, we will be (as the title states) digesting much American Rhetoric (not just literature, but media and speeches from past to present).
2. By digesting, I am asking you to think, read, write, swallow and perhaps digest or spit out texts we are reading, viewing, and listening to. As a class, we will question this rhetoric and connect its implications to our personal ideas and current issues occurring in the world today.
3. We will challenge and push these ideas through discussion, writing, argument and reason. (Specifically, you will write analyze, write arguments and narratives this year).

This is the year to hone your voice, speak with authority, and continue the journey to making your footprint in this world.
