Grades

Hi classes - Hope you are having fun with Mr. Hurl and writing narratives.
Grades are in Zangle for the last assgnments.
1. Act IV Quiz was entered
2. Book Review (should be 4-5 paragraphs of your own words for a good grade) you submitted the link to me on the form that said 1st 6 week Book Review (20 points weighted in reading category under 20%)
3. Character Profile - (A should have been 1-2 pages with 5 + quotes explaining your role and how the actions of the story affected you throughout the play. B was a 3rd person essay C - paragraph responses analyzing 5 quotes) 30 points weighted in writing category at 40%.

Missing assignments

  • I forgot to share the assignment with you - share it with me - send me an email at jenmurphy11@gmail.com asking me to please grade it (if it is an assignment given with Mr. Hurl talk with him about it, assignments due when I was with you, talk to me) 
  • I didn't do it and it is really affecting my grade - late submissions will only be counted up to C credit 
  • Make sure you are doing your assignments (journals, article entries and sharing them with me and Mr. Hurl) 
  • Late assignments will be looked at as long as time allows me to - still waiting on Baby.

Journal 21 Character Development


Objective: How do I describe my characters physically and mentally? How do I bring characters to life and decide which characters are necessary?
Describe your main character’s Name:
Age:
Height:
Eye color:
Hair color:
1.     What is this character's major goal?

2.     Why is this goal so important to this character?

3.     Are there any events in the character's past that affect the significance of this goal?

4.   Describe your characters life till now, motivations, family situation, quirks.

5.   Is there another character who pushes your character for better or worse? Are they a sidekick or antagonist) Describe them physically and mentally?

6.   Do you have other characters influencing the decision the main character makes in the plot? Describe them?

7.     Writing Exercise: Your main characters have to change a flat tire, in the rain. Describe the conversation they have. What does this tell you about your characters? How do they deal in tense situations? How do they influence each other?

Journal 19 - Plot Development


Answer each of the following with a brief paragraph

1.    Exposition: What setting and background is necessary to drive this story?

2.    Rising Action: what actions will lead my characters into action, begin questioning, what will be going through their mind


3.    Conflict: What conflict are my characters trying to resolve or discover? why is this important?

4.    Climax: What is the most crucial turning point or decision in the story?


5.    Falling Action / resolution: what goes through the characters minds after the climactic decision, what conversation or action follows this? what do they realize?

6.    Theme: what idea about human behavior should your readers have after reading your story?

Use this opportunity to brainstorm and create ideas for your narrative story.  Make sure that your ideas are REALISTIC and that the conflict can be resolved in a short story.  Please include your list of fearful situations and any notes that will help you begin your writing.
