Hello From Mrs. Murphy

Hi,
I have missed you all a lot and am anxious to see what you have been up to and continue working with you this year.

1. Write me a note - Fill out this form
2. Look at Transformation Paper Rubric
3. Test Yourself - Grade these papers with a partner using the 1 - 6 scale
4. Now look at your paper and at the bottom of your Transformation Paper write what grade you think you should get and why
Include reasons from the rubric and explain where in your essay you show this.

Example:
Score 5
My essay is strong, but not superior, because I show clear ideas from all 4 authors, give examples in every paragraph, and have strong organization. I may have some grammar mistakes and I didn't understand Thoreau as much as I wanted to. My example on Ghandi and how he connects to the current day peaceful protesters is my strongest point. Another weak point is my conclusion since I don't know what I want to say exactly, but my tone is confident.

Tips for Transformation Paper:
Make sure your paper....

  • is titled: Per Name Civil Disobedience or Transformational Thinking
  • Make sure you have headers and a title on the actual paper

English, Per. 7

Civil Disobedience: a continuing idea
  • Avoid I, phrases like "in class we discussed" or " thoreau was a great guy"
  • use transitions: Additionally, Similar to Thoreau is another man by the name of... , Also fighting for justice...

"Prior to reading Gandhi, I had about concluded that the ethics of Jesus were only effective in individual relationships. The "turn the other cheek" philosophy and the "love your enemies" philosophy were only valid, I felt, when individuals were in conflict with other individuals; when racial groups and nations were in conflict a more realistic approach seemed necessary. But after reading Gandhi, I saw how utterly mistaken I was." - Martin Luther King Jr.
