Coming back to your expert project... YOU SHOULD HAVE 4-5 blogs posts completed by the end of this week.
You might be behind on your expert project research, but this week is for you to catch up.
Today you will be doing some scholarly searching on your topic.
If you haven’t already shared the link to your blog please fill out this form.
1. Find an article or resource closely related to your research question. (example: Topic - gun violence related topic - brain research and violence or new gun laws)
Finding scholarly articles ...use:
http://scholar.google.com/
or SIRS (username CA1471 PSWD: 92106)
or Elibrary on library homepage(username: plhs password: welcome)
2. Post a link to what you found on your blog in a new post.
Use the rest of the post to explain and summarize what you found. Be thorough:
Summary should include: title, author, 2-4 sentence summary of article, why is this significant to you and others, may include: a personal reaction to a quote from the article, conclude with questions you have about topic, conclusions you have made, recommendations for people to think about.
3. Add a citation for what you found to your expert project notes in Google Docs.
Copy and paste URL of article into citation machine or easy bib then paste into your notes
4. Find a 2nd article from a different perspective and write another blog post First, re-read your last blog post. Then continue searching for information on your topic. This time try to find an article or resource that presents a different view of your topic from the last article.
Example: Topic - gun control
You could “find” this NYT article “In Gun Debate, A Misguided Focus on Mental Illness” and then also find this blog post from the Anarchist Soccer Mom, http://anarchistsoccermom.blogspot.com/2012/12/thinking-unthinkable.html.
Post a link to what you find today on your blog and use the rest of the post to summarize what you found out. Be specific and detailed. Add the citation to your notes.
